Message from The Canada-Japan Co-op Program (CJCP)
Due to the current global pandemic, The Canada-Japan Co-op Program and its consortium member institutions made the very difficult decision in late June that co-op work terms for the Winter (January – April) 2021 term in Japan are suspended. This decision is in line with the current advice of BC CDC and Global Affairs Canada. It follows guidelines outlined in UBC’s Student Safety Abroad Policy. Both levels of government advise against non-essential international travel since many countries are experiencing community transmission and have varying travel restrictions in place.
Given that the Canadian and Japanese governments avoid non-essential international travel advisories look likely to remain in place for quite some time, we felt it was better to provide certainty to our participating students, employers and prospective students by making this decision now.
We will re-assess the situation in mid/late September for future co-op work terms in Japan.
If you are interested in applying for the program to secure the co-op work term for the summer (May-August) 2021 start date or afterwards, please reach out to Yuko Nemoto, Program Coordinator at email@example.com in mid/late September to inquire the hiring cycles and schedule in detail.
